It's the last month of 2022, can you believe it?
Truly in the wise words of SmashMouth, the years start coming and they don't stop coming.
Anyway, let's get reflective for the holidays~
WildStar Press is 4 years old! 4 years of getting books and anthologies published and out to the public. 4 years of publishing the minority because larger publishers hesitate to pick up new talent. 4 years of me (Akira B.) running this press in order to break the cycle of "you can't get into publishing because you don't have experience, but in order to get experience you need to get published". It's been 4 years and it's been a labor of love every step of the way.
WS Press isn't the most well funded like other indie publishers or even a "big name" (yet), but what we do have is a lot of heart- not that heart pays creators but more so heart in the way that I will continue to build this Press until everyone gets the recognition that they deserve. Even during its slower months I love doing this and I'm going to keep at it. But in the same vein, WildStar Press wouldn't be here had it not been for this amazing support and I hope that you continue to support as we grow and expand.
And speaking of expanding! Here's some stuff to look forward to in the new year:
3 New Books! (Ideally they'll be out early in the year, but the Press does not rush creators so we will see)
Submissions will be open again! Ideally around April - May.
New Anthology! 10/10 early viewers have declared it cool. It'll be a Western. Submissions open in July. Stay tuned~
Conventions! (Heroes Con again maybe 👀?)
More shops! I'm pushing to get WS books into more places! And if you have comic shops you want to see these books in, let me know!
Note: I say ideally because I am of course one person running this publisher. Things happen! You'll have to be patient with me.
But for now? Now it's time to get the holiday shopping out of the way. These next two weeks will be catering to getting as much stuff out of the store as possible before the holidays, so don't forget to buy your comics. December 18th will be the day WS Press closes for the holidays. The shop will remain open but all books bought after December 19th will be shipped after January 2nd. And if you're not buying anything, share the Press with a friend. Indie publishers and most small businesses rely heavily on word of mouth as part of their reach and it's the easiest form of support!
