Dee, formerly known as Unit no. 78, rips out the order processing unit of her positronic brain. She escapes into the desert where she befriends mutant auto-mechanic Tara and inadvertently helps him break up with his abusive boyfriend Joryuck. With the help of Tara and his new boyfriend Lyle, Dee is able to build an identity for herself beyond her programming. Throughout her journey, Dee's growth is hindered by anti-bot groups (some antagonized by Joryuck) as well as her own creator, Boss Pink, who will stop at nothing to destroy Dee for her insubordination.
